Hush Hush Hullabaloo: Rumors Fly That Tesla Is Releasing A Home Battery

They're cool.

They're elusive.

They're innovative.

And, they're really, really shiny.

Since the late aughts (yup we did it—we said aughts) Tesla cars have been quietly infiltrating our streets. (Literally. Have you been inside one? Talk about stealth.) Although the price is questionably more than enough reason to steer the vast majority of Americans away—the Roadster, for instance, starts around $102,000—another pressing concern has prevented purchases.

You see, Teslas—despite popular belief—don't run on magic. Ya'll have to charge them in a ho-hum, run-of-the-mill electrical outlet, which gets drivers about 58 miles per hour of charging. (But if your life or—gasp!—family vacations were anything like mine, this all-too-important task will be promptly forgotten and chaos will ensue.)

Until now, that is.

Rumor has it that Tesla is unveiling a battery at an upcoming event, coyly referring to it as "the missing piece." The creation—supposedly—will store excess solar power and use it as a backup in case of an outage. This would lessen the reliance on traditional electricity, and save folks some money. As for specifics, rumors are flying, but nothing has been confirmed.

Alas, we'll just have to wait another pesky two days before we'll all know our fateful fate.
